By Zoila Palma: On July 1, 2026, Francis Fonseca, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the National Celebrations Commission along with members of the Commission, officially unveiled the theme for the Belize@45 National Celebrations.
“Look At Me: I am Belize@45”, submitted by 18-year-old Amber Mariano, was selected as this year’s winning theme.
The National Celebrations Commission says that as Belize prepares to commemorate 45 years of Independence, the theme places the spotlight where it belongs, on the people.
“It is a celebration of every Belizean whose resilience, diversity, culture, talent and shared aspirations continue to shape the nation’s story. “Look At Me: I am Belize@45” reminds us that Belize is not defined solely by its landscapes or institutions, but by the strength, unity and spirit of its people,” the commission said.
Minister Fonseca said that at 45, Belize’s cultural mosaic remains an essential treasure of our nation-building efforts.
“The way we perfectly harness the vibrant vibes of the Caribbean and the rich heritage of Central America is not just unique—it is a gift of the human spirit for us to protect, cherish, and develop.
Just look at our foods, and we can appreciate the complexity of our culture and the value of safeguarding who we are, simply by how we prepare what we eat within our communities,” Minister Fonseca expressed.
The Belize@45 National Celebrations will honor the individuals and communities who embody the nation’s past, present and future, celebrating the collective identity that makes Belize proudly one people, one nation.
