Seine Bight Computer Lab ready, but still waiting on internet

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): After two years of work, the Seine Bight Computer Lab is ready to open. There is just one problem. It has no internet.

Community advocate Lynn Upham says she has been waiting more than three months for a decision from DIGI on a request for free internet service.

The library and lab have been funded by Believe in Belize, Placencia Rotary, Belize Parrotheads and numerous individuals.

Upham says she first applied to Southern Cable and Nex Gen but was turned down. She then turned to DIGI because of its support for educational causes.

According to Upham, she was told repeatedly that the request was on the desk of the Ministry of Education and then the CEO. Now, she says, she is being ghosted when she asks for updates.

She plans to visit DIGI’s Placencia office on Thursday and is asking the public to join her or send messages of support she can print and take along.
