By Zoila Palma: The Taiwan Technical Mission in Belize joined St. John’s College in celebrating cultural diversity during its recent Culture Day activities, introducing students and members of the school community to Taiwanese traditions through interactive games and cultural exchanges.
The initiative was led by Yi-Ying Hsiao, Mandarin teacher in Belize, alongside students from her Mandarin classes, who took the opportunity to showcase aspects of Taiwanese culture. The activities brought the atmosphere of Taiwan’s popular night markets to the school campus, giving participants a hands-on experience of the country’s traditions.
Among the activities were picking up red beans using chopsticks, walking on stilts and playing Taiwanese battle tops, commonly known as Beyblades. The games encouraged participation and provided an opportunity for students to learn about Taiwanese culture in an entertaining and engaging way.
The Taiwan Technical Mission said the participation formed part of efforts to strengthen cultural understanding and friendship between Taiwan and Belize.
