San Pedro man charged with land scam

By Aaron Humes: Police formally arrested and charged Valeriano Pedro Vasquez, 54, a real estate agent from Marina Drive, Eiley’s Sub-Division, San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, Belize District, for the crime of Obtaining Property by Deception.

On Tuesday Hugo Alfredo Montepeque Chinchilla reported to San Pedro Police Station that in January 2024, one Valeriano Pedro Vasquez offered to sell him a parcel of land located North of San Pedro Town. On January 31, 2024, he paid Vasquez $8,000 for the parcel of land.

About 2 weeks ago, Valeriano Vasquez informed Hugo Chinchilla that the parcel of land he was selling to him was in fact owned by another person.

Police investigated and charged Vasquez, who offered no explanation for the alleged deception.
