By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Salvadoran waiter accused of injuring two people during a domestic dispute has been released on bail after appearing before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
42-year-old William Membreno, a Salvadoran national and waiter, was charged with two counts of use of deadly means of harm following an altercation that reportedly left people women wounded, a man and a woman.
Police say the incident occurred around 5:35 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the Ebony Street residence where Membreno lives. According to reports, a fight broke out between Membreno and his common-law partner. One of the woman’s relatives told police she intervened after seeing Membreno’s girlfriend being choked, and her boyfriend also got involved. During the struggle, the intervening boyfriend was allegedly stabbed twice in the lower left side of his back, while his girlfriend also sustained a stab wound to her upper back.
When brought before the court, Membreno, who was unrepresented, denied initiating the altercation, insisting he had been attacked by others inside his home.
The court did not take a plea, as the matter is indictable. Prosecutors did not object to bail, but requested conditions be imposed. Membreno was ordered to report to the Queen Street Police Station every Friday beginning November 7, 2025, avoid contact with the complainants and their families, and remain at least 100 yards away from them.
Membreno, who works at Tavern, told the court he would relocate from Ebony Street to comply with the conditions and maintain his employment. The Senior Magistrate instructed him to update the court with his new address before the next hearing.
The case remains under investigation.
