By Zoila Palma: A closing ceremony was held at the Orange Walk Agriculture Station on July 18, marking the successful completion of the Queen Bee Selection and Breeding workshop, which ran from July 16th to 18th.
The event celebrated the efforts of participants from across the country who took part in the intensive 3-day training focused on advanced techniques in queen bee selection and breeding.
Each participant received a certificate of completion, and several individuals were recognized with special awards for outstanding performance.
The ceremony featured keynote remarks from Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, Jose Abelardo Mai, as well as CEO Servulo Baeza, who both praised the participants’ commitment to improving Belize’s apiculture sector.
Workshop facilitator Dr. Elian Tourn of Argentina also addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of sustainable beekeeping practices and regional collaboration.
The workshop was led by Dr. Tourn and Dr. Cecilia Pellegrini from Universidad del Sur, Argentina, whose expertise helped strengthen the knowledge and skills of local beekeepers and agricultural professionals.
