By Horace Palacio: Anthony Mahler of the People’s United Party (PUP) has been officially declared the winner of the Pickstock constituency after running unopposed in the upcoming general elections.
Mahler secured the seat by default after United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate Dean Samuels failed to appear for nomination day, leaving no other contenders in the race. With no candidates from Tracy Panton’s Alliance for Democracy (AFD) or independent hopefuls, Mahler automatically retained his position as area representative.
In a message to his supporters, Mahler expressed gratitude and emphasized his commitment to serving the people of Pickstock. “This seat is not just an office; it is a profound trust that you have placed in me. I am deeply committed to honoring this trust with relentless dedication, hard work, and an unwavering focus on the needs of our community,” he stated.
Mahler acknowledged the significance of the victory while stressing that the work is far from over. “Together, we will continue to build a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Pickstock,” he added.
Looking ahead to the general elections on March 12, Mahler encouraged his supporters to rally behind other PUP candidates across the country, reinforcing the party’s vision for a united and progressive Belize.
