Prisoner reported dead inside Central Prison, Hattieville

By Aaron Humes: Usually, only those sentenced to serve the remainder of their natural lives, or a large part of it, at the Belize Central Prison in Hattieville, Belize District, die there, but on Wednesday, a prisoner was reported dead inside his cell of unknown causes.

According to Police, prison officers reported that an inmate informed them around 5:30 a.m. that a fellow prisoner was reported motionless in his cell. He was identified as 42-year-old Everaldo Garcia of Guinea Grass, Orange Walk District, serving time for three counts of theft since January 30.

An investigation revealed that inmate Everaldo Garcia was last attended to on Tuesday by the prison Emergency Medical Technician and was last seen alive, walking in his cell, at 2:55 a.m. Wednesday by a prison officer.

There was no sign of foul play suspected. The body was ferried to the KHMH morgue, and family members were contacted.
