By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Prime Minister John Briceño travelled to Madrid, Spain this week to participate in a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Central American Air Navigation Services Corporation (COCESNA), the regional body responsible for coordinating air navigation services across Central America.
The meeting was convened at the invitation of Indra Sistemas S.A., one of the world’s leading suppliers of aeronautical radar technology and aviation management systems.
During the visit, board members held discussions with aviation equipment manufacturers, consultants, and industry experts involved in the integration and modernization of aeronautical systems for COCESNA member countries.
The delegation also toured several facilities and manufacturing plants where they were able to observe new aviation technologies and air navigation systems currently being developed and implemented around the world.
Belize was represented by Prime Minister Briceño and Narda Garcia, Chief Executive Officer in the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Investment and Civil Aviation. Both serve on the COCESNA Board on behalf of Belize.
The discussions focused on strengthening air navigation services, improving aviation safety, and exploring new technologies that could help modernize the region’s aviation infrastructure.
For Belize, participation in COCESNA remains important as the country continues to grow its tourism sector and expand regional and international air connectivity. Modern air traffic management systems are considered essential for ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable air travel throughout Central America.
The visit also provided Belize with an opportunity to remain engaged in regional planning efforts and to evaluate technologies that could benefit the country’s aviation sector in the years ahead.
