Prime Minister announces new appointments for Chief Executive Officers

By Aaron Humes: Prime Minister John Briceño has announced the appointment of new Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) for Government ministries, a significant move aimed at enhancing governance and improving operational efficiency across various sectors. This decision was communicated to Her Excellency Governor-General Dame Froyla Tzalam pursuant to section 107 of the Constitution.

The newly appointed CEOs bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their respective roles, poised to lead their ministries in addressing the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Among the new hires, Milagro Matus will take charge of Sustainable Development, Climate Change & Solid Waste Management, focusing on environmental resilience, replacing Dr Kenrick Williams, and Francis Usher will assume leadership in National Defence & Border Security, tasked with safeguarding Belizean sovereignty. He takes over from retired Brigadier General Dario Tapia. Carlos Pol, after acting in the post, will be full-time in spearheading efforts in Economic Development and Transformation, aligning with the government’s vision of modernizing the economy to meet contemporary demands. Beverly Wade, former head of the Fisheries Department and Blue Bond Unit, will lead efforts in Blue Economy & Marine Conservation, promoting sustainable use of marine resources.

Returning CEOs include Rolando Zetina at Public Service, Governance & NEMO, overseeing critical governance structures; Joseph Waight as Financial Secretary, tasked with overseeing the nation’s financial operations and ensuring fiscal responsibility; Narda Garcia at the Office of the Prime Minister, where she will focus on Investment and Civil Aviation, aiming to bolster economic growth through strategic investments; Jose Urbina to lead E-Governance, a critical role as the government seeks to enhance digital services and improve citizen engagement.

Paul Thompson will oversee the Ministry of Natural Resources, Petroleum & Mining, ensuring sustainable management of the nation’s resources.

The tandem of Amalia Mai and Tanya Santos Neal have been tasked with leading the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Culture and Immigration, promoting Belize on the international stage and navigating the complexities of immigration policies and procedures.

Servulo Baeza continues to lead the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security & Enterprise, focusing on enhancing food production and security; Victor Espat will oversee Infrastructure Development & Housing, addressing the nation’s pressing needs for improved infrastructure; Sharole Saldivar has been appointed to lead Home Affairs & New Growth Industries, promoting safety and innovation in community development; Nicole Usher Solano will head Tourism, Youth, Sports & Diaspora Relations, aiming to strengthen Belize’s tourism sector and engage its diasporic communities.

In the realm of Health & Wellness, Dr. Julio Sabido will drive initiatives to enhance public health and improve medical services; Dian Maheia will head the Education, Science & Technology Ministry, fostering advancements in education and innovation; Dr. Valentino Shal will focus on Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour & Local Government, addressing rural challenges and enhancing community engagement; and veteran Adele Catzim has been appointed to oversee Human Development, Family Support & Gender Affairs, promoting social equity and support services.
