By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Data from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) showed that for the month of July, higher food prices were notable.
The inflation rate for ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ stood at 5.7 percent for the month, largely due to higher prices for food items.
The cost of fresh vegetables rose by a whopping 18.2%.
Particularly the prices of tomatoes went from $3.44 to $4.58 per pound and sweet peppers went from $4.52 to $6.22 per pound.
In addition, the price of okra went from $8.48 to $15.86 per pound and carrots went from $2.33 to $2.60 per pound.
Corn also noted price increases from $6.19 to $7.10 for 3 units.
Overall consumer prices were up 3.8% in July.
