Premier League of Belize: Verdes edge Port Layola; stay in lead

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes defeated Port Layola, one of their toughest rivals, 1-0 at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in the in the fourth week of the Premier League of Belize 2023-24 Closing Championship retaining their lead with a perfect 12 points.

Colombian defender Arles Balanta, a new addition to the club, nailed the only goal of the match in the 38^th minute.

While this was the Green Machine’s fourth consecutive win, Port Layola have now lost twice remaining in third place with six points from two wins.

Verdes also lead the Road to Concacaf table with 41 points ahead of Port Layola (33), Benque Viejo United (32), and champions Altitude and Progresso (28 each).

In the other matches, Benque Viejo United drew 0-0 against champions Altitude and Police Benque drew 1-1 with the Bandits on Saturday, while Progresso crushed Wagiya 5-1.
