By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Week 3 of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2024-2025 Opening Season features one match on Saturday and two on Sunday, with teams vying for early dominance.
San Pedro Pirates vs. Verdes FC
The action kicks off with the key matchup on Saturday, August 17, at 7:30 pm at Ambergris Stadium, where San Pedro Pirates will face off against Verdes FC. This key match features Verdes FC, currently in third place with three points and a goal difference of +6, looking to climb higher in the standings. San Pedro Pirates, in second place with four points and a goal difference of +4, are eager to maintain their strong start to the season.
Wagiya FC vs. Progresso FC
On Sunday, August 18, at 4:00 pm, Carl Ramos Stadium will host the clash between Wagiya and Progresso. The visiting Orange Walk side lead the standings with six points and a goal difference of +4. They aim to maintain their top position, while Wagiya FC, currently at the bottom with no points and a goal difference of -7, will be in the hunt for their first win.
Port Loyola vs. Bandits Sports
Simultaneously on Sunday at 4:00 pm, champions Port Loyola will take on Bandits Sports at the Marion Sporting Complex in Belize City. Port, sitting in fourth place with 1 point from one game, will be looking to improve their current position. Bandits Sports, currently in fifth place without a point and a goal difference of -7, are desperate for a turnaround.
Additionally, Port Loyola will travel to Panama on Monday for their final Concacaf Central American Cup match against CA Independiente, scheduled for Wednesday.
Current Standings
After two weeks of play, Progresso lead the standings with 6 points and a goal difference of +4. SP Pirates and Verdes FC follow closely, each with 4 points but differing goal differences. Port Loyola and Bandits are in the middle of the table, while Wagiya is at the bottom, yet to secure a point.
