By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2023-24 Closing Championship kicks off with the top two clubs, Champions Altitude and Subchampions Port Layola, facing off at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
A PLB source said the fixture is pure coincidence as the PLB Opening Season calendar was drafted ahead of the Opening Season playoffs.
In the other two Saturday matches, Progresso FC will tackle Benque Viejo United at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk and Police Benque (Club Deportivo Benque) will take on Wagiya at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen.
All three games start at 7:30 pm.
Subchampions Verdes play their archrivals Bandits Sports at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio at 4:00 pm in the only match on Sunday, January 14.
The Regular Season should be completed by Sunday, April 28, 2024 and the champions should be decided by May 26 to meet the deadline to submit to Concacaf the name of Belize’s representative to the Concacaf Champions Cup.
