By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belmopan FC secured their first victory of the 2025 Premier League of Belize (PLB) Opening Season on Saturday night, defeating Wagiya FC 3–0 at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
After a goalless draw against Progresso last week at home, Belmopan came out determined to make a statement in front of their home crowd. Their breakthrough came early in the 16th minute when referee awarded a penalty in their favour. Defender Eugene Martinez (#23) stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to put Belmopan ahead 1–0.
The hosts doubled their lead in the 36th minute through forward Adam Kamara (#17), who capitalized on a defensive lapse to slot home Belmopan’s second goal. The two-goal cushion held through halftime, with Belmopan controlling possession and tempo.
Wagiya, meanwhile, struggled to find rhythm. Their defensive vulnerabilities were exposed again in the 62nd minute when midfielder Stephen Moralez (#6) added Belmopan’s third goal, sealing the match at 3–0.
The win lifts Belmopan’s spirits as they look to build momentum in the coming weeks.
Wagiya, who suffered their third consecutive defeat—following earlier losses to Napoles (2–1) and Port Layola (4–1)—will need to regroup quickly to avoid further setbacks in the early stages of the PLB campaign.
