By Aaron Humes: The body of a Hattieville, Belize District woman laid to rest on Saturday, February 28 was allegedly tampered with after her grave in the village cemetery was apparently broken into, police say.
The tomb of the deceased, aged 63, was found violated at Hattieville Cemetery this morning, Sunday, around 8:30 AM. Upon their arrival, police officers discovered an unpainted concrete tomb with significant damage to its rear section. Investigation found that the deceased had died due to natural causes eight days earlier, specifically an acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) related to diabetes mellitus.
Police began an investigation of the crime scene. Following careful examination, her remains were transported to the Medical College for further investigation.
As the investigation unfolds, police are urging anyone with information regarding the damage to contact them, hoping to bring those responsible to justice and restore peace to the grieving family.
