By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): As Belize moves closer to municipal elections, Prime Minister John Briceño says the People’s United Party is already preparing its slates across the country, including possible contested conventions in some areas.
Speaking on the issue, Briceño revealed that the PUP’s national executive recently met to discuss prospective candidates and the direction of upcoming municipal races.
According to the Prime Minister, contested conventions are likely in certain municipalities, though he suggested Orange Walk Town may avoid internal battles due to the current council’s performance and popularity.
Briceño also pointed to Belize City as an area attracting strong interest from younger candidates considering mayoral runs. Despite the potential competition, he expressed confidence that the city would remain in good hands regardless of who eventually emerges victorious.
