By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Opposition Leader Tracy Panton is questioning the timing of First Lady Rossana Briceño’s recent official visit to Guatemala.
In a statement titled “PM Briceño unhinged!?!”, Panton said Belizeans listened with grave concern as Prime Minister John Briceño responded sharply to a reporter’s question about the trip.
Panton said the visit deserves scrutiny given Belize’s recent statements at the UN General Assembly on rising tensions with Guatemala, and as the country prepares for oral arguments at the International Court of Justice.
She stressed that the question is not an attack on Mrs. Briceño, who serves as Belize’s Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children. Panton praised her advocacy, especially for children with special needs.
“The question is about the timing of this visit,” Panton wrote.
She said Belizeans are entitled to know what the visit involved, why it happened now and what message it was meant to send.
