By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A shooting that left three people injured in Lords Bank Village, Ladyville, has now claimed a life.
According to police, 19-year-old Giovanni Gillette, one of the victims of the shooting, has died from the injuries he sustained. Gillette had been receiving treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was initially listed in critical but stable condition, before he later passed away.
The incident took place when a gunman approached a group that had gathered in the village and opened fire, striking three people. Gillette and 24-year-old Alfredo Flores were both hospitalized, while a third person, Edgar Flores, was injured but refused medical attention.
Gillette had recently been charged in a separate case involving an alleged firearm offense. That matter had not gone to trial, and it will not now proceed following his death. He had been entitled, like anyone facing such an allegation, to the presumption of innocence.
The shooting remains under investigation, with police yet to announce a suspect or a motive. The loss adds to ongoing concerns about gun violence affecting young people, and officials continue to ask anyone with information to assist.
