By Aaron Humes: An oil spill reported this afternoon created dangerous driving conditions on the Philip Goldson Highway, affecting traffic entering the City near the Fort George Roundabout. The slick surface caused vehicles, ranging from motorcycles to large 18-wheelers, to slip and skid, posing a serious risk to motorists.
Police are on the scene and urging all drivers to exercise extreme caution when traveling in this area. Belize Waste Control has responded by pouring sand on the road surface to absorb the oil and create more traction for driving.
In the meantime, motorists are advised to slow down and remain vigilant to ensure their safety and the safety of others. As the situation develops, commuters are encouraged to seek alternate routes and stay tuned for further updates. Traffic congestion is expected as cleanup efforts continue. Officials are investigating the cause of the spill and will release more information as it becomes available.
