By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 24-year-old Faber’s Road resident is back on remand at the Belize Central Prison after allegedly being caught in the act of trying to steal a woman’s purse through her bedroom window.

Robert Lauriano appeared unrepresented before a Magistrate in Court #3 at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where he was arraigned on a single charge of burglary.

The allegation is that on Monday, June 22, Lauriano entered as a trespasser the home of a 52-year-old woman on Faber’s Road, Belize City, and stole a purse valued at $30 containing $353 in cash, a mirror valued at $2.99, lip gloss valued at $2, and sunshades valued at $15, for a total value of $402.99.

Lauriano pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to police reports, the woman was asleep inside her bedroom around 2:40 a.m. when she was awakened by someone pushing a hand through her bedroom window while holding a rusty metal pipe, measuring about three feet six inches, wrapped with white electrical wire. The object was allegedly being used as a makeshift hook to grab her purse from near her bed.

Carr reportedly snatched the object from the person’s hand, jumped out of bed, and called 911. She then looked through another window and saw a man running from the direction of her bedroom window.

Carr later confronted the man, whom she recognized as someone who had visited her neighbour in the past to sell items. Police arrived shortly after and took him into custody.

At his arraignment, Lauriano was denied bail after the court noted that he had reportedly been released from prison just days earlier in connection with a handling stolen goods charge.

He was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until August 24, 2026.
