By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 19-year-old Independence Village man is facing a drug charge after a multi-unit police operation turned up suspected cannabis at a residence in the Stann Creek District village.
According to the Belize Police Department, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m., members of several police units were conducting an anti-drug operation within Independence Village. Armed with a search warrant for controlled drugs, officers conducted a search at a residence in the village.
During the search, police found nine transparent plastic bags containing a green leafy substance suspected to be cannabis inside a wooden cabinet.
A man was escorted along with the suspected drugs to the Intermediate Southern Formation, where the substance was weighed in his presence, amounting to 27 grams.
On Friday, July 24, 2026, police formally arrested and charged Jaylen Joe Logan, a 19-year-old self-employed resident of Sundown Trail, Independence Village, with possession of a controlled drug.
