By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 28 year old labourer of Muffles Street has been charged with burglary after nearly $19,000 in goods was stolen from an electronics store in Orange Walk Town.
Police say officers on mobile patrol along Liberty Avenue around 2:40am on Thursday spotted a black Lifan motorcycle carrying two men, with the passenger holding two large boxes containing flat screen televisions.
The riders sped off when they saw police. During the chase, the passenger threw the boxes onto the roadside and the motorcycle slipped. Both men abandoned the bike and escaped on foot.
Officers recovered the motorcycle along with a 40 inch CHIQ television and a 40 inch JVC television.
Checks at nearby businesses led police to an electronics store on the first floor of the D Victoria Hotel building on Belize Corozal Road, where a metal door at the back was closed but not locked.
The owner reported ten 50 inch smart televisions, three motorcycles, wall mounts and two 40 inch smart televisions missing, totalling $18,795.
Benito Obilio Torres was arrested and charged with burglary. He chose to remain silent.
