By Horace Palacio: The Museum of Belize, in partnership with the National Kriol Council, is excited to announce the “Marooner’s Kriol Kolcha Summer Camp” for 2024. This unique cultural immersion program aims to educate and engage children in the rich traditions of Kriol culture.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn the art of crafting their own musical instruments and delve into the world of traditional Kriol music and language. The camp will also feature storytelling sessions, focusing on captivating Kriol folktales.
The highlight of the camp will be a trip to the historic Maroon community of Gales Point Manatee, where participants will participate in a traditional “Sambai” dance demonstration and storytelling, just in time for Emancipation Day 2024.
