Murder Trial of Kenrick Longsworth, charged with killing 3-year-old stepson in 2020, begins

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The murder trial of Kenrick Longsworth, 31, accused of killing his 3-year-old stepson, Mark Francisco Teul, and injuring his two siblings, commenced on Wednesday in the High Court before Justice Derick Sylvester.

The tragic incident occurred on January 10, 2020, when police responded to reports of child abuse at a Lovely Lane address. Officers found three severely abused boys: Mark Francisco Teul, 3; Zemar Teul, 4; and Markeem Teul, 2. Mark Teul was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, while his siblings survived after days of hospitalization.

The children showed signs of physical and sexual abuse. Mark’s autopsy revealed asphyxia and blunt force trauma as the causes of death.

In court, the boys’ mother, Zema Requena, testified she left her children with Longsworth that day. Upon returning, she discovered Mark lifeless and badly beaten. Longsworth allegedly admitted to disciplining the children, which he claimed was due to frustration.

Defense attorney Andrew Bennett suggested Requena herself was responsible for the injuries, which she vehemently denied. The trial continues tomorrow.
