By Horace Palacio: Belizeans can expect a mix of sun and showers today as moist and unstable weather conditions linger. The National Meteorological Service of Belize predicts cloudy skies interspersed with sunny breaks. Northern and central areas may experience showers, thunderstorms, and light rain this morning. Shower activity is expected to lessen this afternoon, but a few showers and thunderstorms could persist along the coast, particularly in the south.
Coastal temperatures will range from 87°F (31°C) to 79°F (26°C), with east-northeast winds at 10-15 knots creating choppy seas. A Small Craft Caution is in effect due to gusty winds and rough seas near heavy showers and thunderstorms. Inland temperatures are forecast to reach 92°F (33°C), while hilly regions will be milder, around 77°F (25°C). Overnight lows are predicted to be 74°F (23°C) inland and 68°F (20°C) in the hills.
An Excessive Rainfall Warning remains in effect for southern coastal areas, where heavy rainfall has been observed. Residents are urged to monitor the situation and contact the Hydrology Unit or NEMO for information on flooding. Cloudy skies are expected to continue into Monday, with a chance of a few showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly along the coast. Shower activity is expected to decrease and become more isolated by Monday night.
