Ministry of Health, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and Belize Cancer Society collaborate for Digital Mammography room at Western Regional Hospital

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On November 6, 2024, the Ministry of Health & Wellness and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints officially opened the Digital Mammography Room at the Western Regional Hospital.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provided the Digital mammography machine for the Western Regional.

The Regional health manager expressed that the opening marked a fundamental step in the fight against Cancer for the public sector as it improves the possibility of making lives better. 

“This will now provide countless women a greater chance at life by providing access to free timely breast cancer screening.”

The Ministry also expressed gratitude for the donation and as well appreciation to the Belize Cancer Society, San Ignacio branch for the donation of furniture to make the space more welcoming. 

The Mammography room also encompasses a waiting area and a changing room. 

Western Regional Hospital is the first public sector health provider to provide free mammogram services.
