By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Recently, the Ministry of Health & Wellness in collaboration with UNICEF Belize has concluded a 2 weeks training to improve maternal and child health specifically in newborn care.
The Kangaroo mother care and Newborn innovations for health professionals responsible for the care of preterm infants was an important training done with health professionals because it promoted skin-to-skin contact techniques for premature and low-birth-weight infants.
The training also formed one of the newborn critical interventions included in the Belize Newborn Action Plan 2024-2030.
