By Aaron Humes: After what he says are months of trying to resolve the matter privately, the son of Minister of State in the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Transport Gilroy Usher, Sr., has come out on social media publicly demanding the return of an unpaid debt.

Gilroy Usher Jr, in posts made on Thursday, says he has been owed $50,000 and more that he gave his family for expenses incurred during the 2015 general election campaign of the elder Usher, who narrowly lost that year to Anthony “Boots” Martinez but was elected in 2020.

The younger Usher posted what appears to be part of a passbook from a local credit union showing the withdrawn funds and a series of conversations via WhatsApp with one of his brothers, who insists he owes Gilroy Jr nothing. According to Usher, there was an understanding, or an obligation, that he would be reimbursed the funds but it was never done.

Father and son are presently before the courts in a separate dispute following an incident earlier this year when Gilroy Junior reportedly crashed into his father’s store, made threats, and allegedly hurt his common-law partner, though the latter charge was recently dropped. The younger Usher is out on bail but has been ordered to stay away from his father and others as part of conditions of that bail.

The elder Usher has not publicly commented.
