By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On February 9, 2024, the Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, Jose Abelardo Mai and the Ministry’s Livestock Technical Team, in close collaboration with the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA), and the Belize Livestock Producers Association (BLPA), embarked on a familiarization mission to El Ceibo Cattle Corral in Peten, Guatemala.
The purpose was to get first hand understanding of the upgraded cattle corral infrastructure and physical cattle inspection protocols to meet export requirements for cattle for fattening and slaughter to Mexico.
The technical field visit was facilitated by the Ministerio de Agricultura, Ganaderia y Alimentacion of Guatemala (MAGA) and the International Regional Organization for Health in Agriculture (OIRSA), for familiarization with Mexico’s export requirement procedures that will contribute to enhance and standardize the protocols for the export of cattle from Belize to Mexico.
