By Zoila Palma: Toledo East Area Representative Osmond Martinez says that Toledo remains the heart of Belize’s future.
During his Independence day speech, Martinez highlighted Toledo’s cultural heritage, natural resources, agriculture, talent, and economic potential, while calling for continued efforts to improve opportunities for residents.
“And let me say this to the people of Toledo: you are not on the edge of Belize. You are at the heart of Belize’s future,” Martinez declared.
He said the district has significant contributions to make to Belize and expressed concern that some residents have felt Toledo receives attention primarily during elections, celebrations, or periods of crisis.
“Toledo is rich in culture, in natural beauty, in talent, in agriculture, in history, and in possibility. Our district has so much to offer Belize and the world,” he stated.
Martinez also outlined his approach to public service, emphasizing community engagement and work on issues affecting residents, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, employment, and small businesses.
“The people deserve someone who works every day. Someone who listens. Someone who shows up,” he said.
The area representative further emphasized the need for opportunities that allow young people to build their futures in Toledo while supporting farmers, fishers, entrepreneurs, teachers, students, and workers.
