Mayor Bernard Wagner participates in meeting of the Advisory Group on Local and Regional Governments to the UN Secretary-General

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Mayor of Belize City Bernard Wagner actively participated in the second meeting of the Advisory Group on Local and Regional Governments to the UN Secretary-General, Mr. António Guterres.

The meetings serve as a crucial platform for sharing ideas on key strategic topics such as recovery measures, sustainable development, gender equality, climate action, and human rights.

The Belize City Council noted that Mayor Wagner’s intervention focused on enhancing institutional mechanisms to strengthen engagement of local and regional governments in intergovernmental processes.

The Advisory Group’s mission is clear: to inform the preparatory processes of the Summit of the Future by incorporating perspectives from local and regional governments.

This ensures that sub-national stakeholders are actively engaged, fostering coordination between cities, regions, nations, and international processes.

“We continue to support Mayor Wagner as he champions Belize City’s interests as well as local government interests and contributes to driving progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals with impact, scale, and speed,” the Belize City Council said.
