By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 21-year-old Belize City man has been fined $2,000 after admitting in court that he assaulted his teenage girlfriend over a WhatsApp message that read “Good morning.”

Ceedrick Raymond Myles, an employee of Brodies Warehouse and a resident of Thurton Street, appeared before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, May 4, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to a single charge of harm. He was ordered to pay a fine of $2,000 plus $5 court costs by December 31, 2026. In default, he will serve five months in prison.

The court heard that the incident occurred on Saturday, April 25, 2026. Myles told the court that he had borrowed his girlfriend’s phone to call his father when a WhatsApp message from another man appeared in a locked chat. When his girlfriend, a 19-year-old woman, refused to provide the password, he became violent.

According to police reports, the woman visited the Gender-Based Violence Unit the following day and reported that around 8:45 a.m. on the day in question, Myles kicked her to the head and punched her multiple times to her head, back, and face. She sustained visible injuries, including swelling to her face, which was later confirmed by a medical examination.

The woman told authorities the delay in reporting the incident was due to the severity of the swelling she experienced after the attack.

Myles accepted responsibility for his actions in court, stating that the altercation stemmed from his attempt to access the message on her phone.

The matter concluded with the imposition of the fine, bringing the case to a close.
