By Breaking Belize News Staff: Gary Hernandez, 29, appeared in court today to face charges of common assault and property damage following an alleged confrontation with his ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend. Hernandez, who has two children with the woman, was charged with two counts of common assault on his ex-girlfriend, 23, and one count of property damage to her boyfriend’s door.
Hernandez, who appeared emotional during his arraignment in Court #7, initially pleaded guilty to one count of common assault, admitting that on October 24, 2024, he choked his ex-girlfriend during a dispute. He, however, denied the second assault charge and the damage to property charge, claiming he did not harm her or damage her boyfriend’s door during an incident on the following day, October 25. The Magistrate accepted his guilty plea for the first assault and fined him $400, with a $5 court cost, to be paid by January 15, 2025, or face a four-month prison term.
The court entered not guilty pleas for the remaining charges, scheduling them for trial. Hernandez was bound over to keep the peace for one year, with a $1,000 penalty for any future domestic-related offenses. Additionally, he was prohibited from contacting his ex-girlfriend or approaching within 100 yards of her. Any communication or delivery of items for his children must be made through a third party.
Hernandez was granted bail of $1,000 and is expected to return to Court #5 on December 23, 2024.
