By Zoila Palma: The British High Commission in Belize announced Sacred Heart College student Chloé Martinez as its High Commissioner for a Day 2026, concluding this year’s programme aimed at promoting leadership and amplifying the voices of young Belizean women.
Martinez was selected through a competitive process that highlighted her leadership vision, commitment to community engagement, and focus on inclusive development.
As part of the initiative, she assumed the role of a UK diplomat for a day, participating in official engagements and observing policy discussions to gain firsthand insight into diplomatic work.
The programme culminated in a Women’s Networking Event, which brought together women from public service, civil society, business, and the diplomatic community.
The networking session reinforced the High Commission’s ongoing commitment to gender equality by creating platforms for young women to engage with experienced professionals, exchange perspectives, and build lasting networks.
British High Commissioner Alistair White described the initiative as vital to developing future leaders, stating that such programmes are “central to preparing confident, capable young women and encouraging meaningful participation in leadership and decision-making spaces.”
The British High Commission congratulated Martinez on her achievement and acknowledged the contributions of participants and partners who supported the initiative, noting that efforts like the programme remain key to empowering the next generation of women leaders in Belize.
