By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A San Pablo Village man found himself charged with common assault twice in the space of five minutes on Sunday afternoon, after two of his own relatives reported being attacked on consecutive nights.

According to the Belize Police Department, the first incident was reported by a 45-year-old housewife who resides in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, and was visiting her mother in the village. She told police that on Friday, July 10, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., the family was having supper in the kitchen when her brother arrived home appearing to be under the influence of alcohol. He became aggressive, she reported, claiming the family was talking badly about him. When she tried to push him out of the kitchen because of his behaviour, she said, he became angry and punched her on the left cheek, causing pain. He left when he heard her calling for police. She requested court action.

The following night, according to a separate report, the same man allegedly struck again, this time targeting his teenage nephew. The 17-year-old told police that on Saturday, July 11, at about 8:00 p.m., he was stepping out the back door of the family home when the man ran at him and threw a punch at his face. He dodged most of the blow, which grazed his cheek, and other relatives had to pull the man away.

Both complainants told police the lighting conditions allowed them to clearly see their attacker, and both requested court action.

Police detained the 47-year-old construction worker of San Pablo Village, and on Sunday, July 12, he was formally arrested and charged with two counts of common assault, the charges laid minutes apart.

The names of those involved are being withheld to protect the identity of the minor complainant, given the family relationships in the matter.

As with any criminal matter, the accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Anyone experiencing violence at home is encouraged to reach out to the police or a trusted support service.
