By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are investigating an early-morning shooting near the Belchina Bridge in Belize City that left 51-year-old Doris Grant critically injured.
Shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday, Grant was travelling in a Nissan Titan pickup along with her partner, Austin Underwood, and 31-year-old Colombian national Andres Orozco.
As the pickup crossed the bridge near Youth for the Future Drive, three men reportedly emerged from the riverside and opened fire on the vehicle. Local reports indicate that Grant, Underwood and Orozco share a Reggae Street address.
Grant suffered several gunshot injuries and was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. Underwood and Orozco were not reported injured.
Police recovered approximately 30 expended shells from the area. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and following several leads, but no suspects have been named and no motive has been established.
Authorities said several police units are conducting patrols and other operations across Belize City to prevent possible retaliation.
Grant and Underwood previously survived another shooting near the Belchina Bridge in June 2024. Police described that earlier attack as gang-related, but investigators have not established whether the latest shooting is connected.
