Man charged over 0.07 grams of suspected crack

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A Guinea Grass Village man is facing a drug charge after police reported finding a small piece of suspected crack cocaine, weighing just 0.07 grams, in his pocket during a street search.

According to the Belize Police Department, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at about 8:20 p.m., officers on mobile patrol in Guinea Grass Village, Orange Walk District, stopped a man walking along an unnamed street. He was informed that a search would be conducted on his person.

During the search, police said they found a piece of a white substance, suspected to be crack cocaine, in the front pocket of his cargo pants. He was informed of the offence, placed under arrest, cautioned, and advised of his constitutional rights. Police noted the area was well lit by street lamps.

The man was identified as 58-year-old Andres Celestino Batun, a Belizean labourer of Guinea Grass Village. At the Orange Walk Police Station, the suspected drug was weighed in his presence, registering a gross weight of 0.07 grams, before being sealed, labelled, and handed over as evidence.

Batun was formally charged with possession of a controlled drug, to wit 0.07 grams of suspected crack cocaine. He was again cautioned and remained silent.
