By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are investigating an alleged aggravated assault against a GI3 officer after a man reportedly kicked the officer in the chest while resisting detention on Police Street Thursday morning.
According to a police situation report, officers were called to a residence on Police Street at around 8:45 a.m. on September 24 after receiving a request for assistance from an officer already at the scene.
Police say a minor alleged that he had been physically assaulted by his stepfather.
Officers informed the parties that they would be escorted to the Raccoon Street Police Station for the matter to be investigated.
Police allege that the stepfather refused to cooperate and began physically struggling with officers as they attempted to handcuff him.
While officers were escorting the man from the residence, a detective constable was positioned near the steps recording the encounter with a police-issued body camera when the man allegedly kicked him on the left side of the chest, causing pain.
The matter is being investigated as aggravated assault.
