By Breaking Belize News Staff: On May 19, 2026, George Gomez took over the helm of the Kolbe Central Prison.
However, according to reports, on July 8, 2026, Gomez was reportedly sent home.
During an interview with 7News Belize, Chairman of the Board Francis Woods indicated that the board is working to recruit another potential CEO but for the meantime, Woods assumes the post.
Meanwhile, Gomez said that the “termination was without merit and a lot of good work was being done under his tenure.”
