By Zoila Palma: Today, Leader of Opposition Tracy Panton issued a statement saying that “Political Office Is NOT License to Steal.”
Panton says that the “fleecing of resources from the public purse must be treated for what it is: a criminal offense against the Belizean people.”
In addition, the Leader of the Opposition says that the “evidence being circulated against a politically-connected family in Belmopan brings into sharp focus, the abuse of public resources. These allegations are egregious and demand an immediate and independent investigation by the relevant oversight authorities including: the Contractor General; the Accountant General; the Financial Secretary; the Auditor General; and, the Office of the Prime Minister.”
“Belizeans deserve the gold standard in transparency and accountability that was promised by this BLU, PUP, Briceño-led Administration.
Those whose fingers are caught in the cookie jar must be exposed; must be investigated; and MUST be held fully accountable under the law,” Panton said.
