By Zoila Palma: On July 8, 2026, Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton and Godwin Haylock met with representatives of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and MCA-Belize to receive an overview of the US$125 million Compact Grant Facility that has been earmarked to strengthen Belize’s education sector and enhance our nation’s energy security.
“While the Compact Agreement has already been signed by both governments, implementation of the programme is expected to commence following its formal launch in September of this year, subject to the introduction and passage of the necessary enabling legislation at the next sitting of the House of Representatives,” Panton explained.
Panton expressed appreciation to the representatives of MCC and MCA-Belize for taking the time to formally brief the Opposition on this significant national initiative.
“As representatives of the Belizean people, we welcome transparency and meaningful engagement on programmes of this scale and importance. We look forward to reviewing the proposed legislation and supporting initiatives that advance quality education, strengthen our energy resilience, and contribute to Belize’s sustainable development in the best interests of all Belizeans,” Panton expressed.
