By Zoila Palma: Today, Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton issued a statement saying that the UDP “expresses its full and unwavering support for Dr. Carla Barnett, Secretary-General of CARICOM, at a time when unity and principled leadership within the region are more critical than ever.”
“The current developments within CARICOM are deeply concerning. Regional integration and cooperation are not abstract ideals, they are essential to our identity and survival as small states navigating an increasingly complex global landscape. Our strength lies in our collective voice,” Panton explained.
Panton says that Dr. Barnett has demonstrated exemplary leadership in guiding the Community through both challenges and opportunities.
In addition, Panton reminded that the CARICOM Sec-Gen is “Belizean to the core and proudly Caribbean.”
“Belize is proud of Dr. Barnett’s accomplishments. We stand with her. We support her. And we remain resolute in our confidence that she will continue to serve with courage and conviction,” she added.
The UDP further congratulated Dr. Barnett on her reappointment as Secretary-General of CARICOM and pledge their full solidarity as she continues the important work ahead.
