By Breaking Belize News Staff: Gabriele Mai, a 36-year-old construction worker from Marage Road in Ladyville, is back behind bars tonight after showing up to court intoxicated for the third time. Mai, who was previously out on bail for allegedly causing dangerous harm to his wife appeared in a visibly inebriated state before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 on Wednesday morning.

Mai’s disoriented behavior was evident as he struggled to stand and slurred his words, addressing the court with, “Your Honour, ah deh yah,” before being seated to prevent him from falling. The Court Prosecutor noted that this was his third court appearance under the influence, calling it a blatant disrespect.

Due to his repeated intoxicated appearances and failure to respect court orders, the magistrate revoked Mai’s $2,000 bail, remanding him to the Belize Central Prison until his trial on December 13, 2024. His initial bail conditions required him to avoid any contact with his wife or her family and maintain good conduct while awaiting trial.
