By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Ladyville construction worker accused of burglarizing a neighborhood primary school—allegedly caught on camera—has been granted bail after pleading not guilty in court.

Thirty-two-year-old Osbourne Danfield Jones of Perez Road appeared unrepresented before a Magistrate in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court last Friday, where he was read a single charge of burglary. The charge stems from an incident at the Ladyville Seventh Day Adventist Primary School, located at the corner of Perez and Mamie Road.

Police allege that on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, Jones entered the school as a trespasser and stole several items, including a container holding $50 in cash, a $20 crystal water bottle, a $100 Lasko fan, a $60 black speaker, and $20 worth of toilet paper and assorted markers valued at $5.95. The total value of the stolen items is put at $275.85.

According to investigators, surveillance footage from a classroom showed a man entering the building during the early morning hours wearing brown checkered shorts, a blue sleeveless shirt, and sky-blue Nike slippers. Police say the individual was later identified as Jones.

Despite being informed of the video evidence, Jones denied the allegation in court. He told the Magistrate that he was on his way to work with tools at the time he was stopped by police and suggested that may have led to his arrest.

The burglary was reported by a 24-year-old teacher at the school, who told police that her classroom had been broken into between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. Entry was reportedly gained by damaging an aluminum louver window on the southern side of the building.

With no objection to bail from the prosecution, the Magistrate granted Jones bail in the sum of $3,000 plus one surety of the same. As part of his bail conditions, he is not to interfere with the virtual complainant or any prosecution witnesses.

Jones, who was able to meet bail, is scheduled to return to court on June 11, 2026.
