By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 59-year-old woman with multiple drug-related convictions has been sent to prison after failing to pay outstanding court fines, following her latest conviction for possession of a crack pipe. Her case marks the second such arrest in the last couple weeks where drug users have been arrested at the same hotspot, known for drug peddling.

Delia McKoy, a domestic worker of Neal’s Pen Road, appeared unrepresented before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court last Friday, where she pleaded guilty to a single charge of possession of utensils for smoking drugs.

Police reported that on Monday, April 20, 2026, while on patrol in Taylor’s Alley—a well-known drug area in the city—they found McKoy in possession of a 3½-inch aluminum pipe adapted for smoking drugs. Officers say the pipe was found on the ground next to her left foot after she allegedly attempted to dispose of it upon seeing police.

In court, McKoy was fined $500 plus a $5 cost of court, with a deadline of May 30, 2026, to pay, in default of five months’ imprisonment.

During mitigation, McKoy told the court that she lives in the area “where people use pipes,” suggesting her environment contributed to her actions.

However, her situation worsened when several outstanding fines from previous drug-related convictions resurfaced. This latest offense marks her fourth conviction for similar charges.

The Senior Magistrate ordered that McKoy settle all outstanding fines or serve time in prison. Unable to pay the accumulated amount, she was remanded to the Belize Central Prison to serve the default sentences.
