By Breaking Belize News Staff: The sentencing of businessman Khris Rosado for causing the death of Police Constable Arcenio Cus has been postponed again, this time until Monday, October 5, 2026.
Rosado appeared before High Court Justice Derick Sylvester on Thursday morning for what was expected to be his sentencing hearing, but the matter was adjourned. Justice Sylvester apologized for the delay and indicated that efforts would be made to conclude the matter at the next appearance.
Rosado, the owner of Thirsty Thursday, pleaded guilty on June 16 to causing death by careless conduct in connection with the July 28, 2025 traffic collision on the Philip Goldson Highway that claimed the life of 38-year-old PC Cus.
His sentencing had initially been scheduled for June 30 but was postponed to October 1 after his attorney, Dr. Lynden Jones, requested an adjournment because he was engaged in another matter outside the district.
Police said Cus, who was from Silver Creek Village, was travelling toward Belize City on a motorcycle when a black vehicle entered his lane and collided with him between miles six and seven of the highway. Cus suffered severe head and abdominal injuries and later died.
Investigators later detained Rosado at his Ladyville residence, where police located a damaged 2009 Honda Ridgeline believed to have been involved in the collision. A post-mortem found that Cus died from multiple blunt-force traumatic injuries sustained in the crash.
Rosado was initially charged with five offences, including manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, driving without due care and attention, failure to stop and render aid, and failure to report an accident. The matter ultimately proceeded in the High Court on the causing-death-by-careless-conduct charge, to which he pleaded guilty.
He is now scheduled to return before Justice Sylvester on Monday for sentencing.
