By Breaking Belize News Staff: Fifty-eight-year-old John Hoy, a watchman of Tigris Street and Tobacco Caye, has been sentenced to three months in prison after pleading guilty to possession of a utensil used for smoking drugs.

Hoy appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #3 on Monday, where he was charged in connection with a two-inch metal pipe allegedly used for smoking drugs.

In court, Hoy pleaded guilty, but told the Senior Magistrate, “Guilty, but they nuh find it on me. It was not on me.” Despite that statement, he accepted that the pipe belonged to him.

The court was told that Hoy has a long record of previous drug-related convictions. Because of those prior convictions, he was not given a fine and was instead sentenced to three months imprisonment.

The Senior Magistrate also told Hoy that he needed help and recommended that he enroll in a drug rehabilitation program while incarcerated.

The incident occurred on Saturday, May 30, 2026, on Plues Street, where police say Hoy was found with the metal pipe in his right front pants pocket.

Hoy also told the court that he needed medical attention, claiming he had been in a fight before his arrest and had sustained a split lip.
