Jadon Jude Young was charged with attempted murder and use of deadly means of harm upon 25-year-old Maleek Sutherland, a Belizean assistant delivery man of Bermudian Landing.

Police say the shooting occurred around 6:20 a.m. on Monday, May 25, 2026, on Cleghorn Street in Belize City, behind Atlantic Bank.

According to police, Sutherland reported that he was walking on Cleghorn Street toward Slaughter House Road when a brown sedan approached him from behind. Sutherland told police that one of the occupants of the vehicle, whom he identified as Young, was seated in the rear passenger seat and fired several shots in his direction.

Sutherland was later found suffering from apparent gunshot injuries to his right leg and the back of his head. He was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Young reportedly handed himself in to police on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, around 9:35 a.m. He was later formally charged.

Due to the nature of the offenses, bail was denied, and Young was remanded until July 31, 2026.
