By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Jafari Castro of G-Flow claimed victory in the Gons Racing Club Boxing Day Cycling Race on Thursday, December 26, 2024, leading a remarkable G-Flow team sweep. Castro’s teammates, Leon Leslie and Derrick Chavarria, finished in second and third places, respectively. The three rode in together and amicably agreed upon their finishing positions.
The weekly Thursday Race, which coincidentally fell on Boxing Day, started at Mile 5 on the George Price Highway in front of Old Belize. The route took cyclists to Hattieville, where they turned onto the Burrell Boom Road, continued to the Boom Bridge, made a U-turn, and headed back to Old Belize.
Shortly after the top three finishers, G-Flow completed their sweep with Jyven Gonzalez and Jaylen Briceño securing fourth and fifth places. They finished ahead of A. Mahler Digi Alliance’s Carlton Robinson, Valvoline’s Keith Enwright, and A. Mahler Digi Alliance’s Byron Pope, who took sixth, seventh, and eighth places, respectively.
Alliance’s Goran Gabourel and Henry Moreira were next in ninth and tenth places. Valvoline’s Brandon Cattouse then led a group sprint to take 11th place.
Thursday’s race marked the 175th organized by the Gons Racing Club.
